Wheel Chair Ramp

When considering a wheel chair ramp one of the most important considerations is, is the wheel chair ramp going to be for long or short term use? Once you are able to answer a few basic questions then you will be able to determine the best type of wheel chair ramp and wheel chair ramp materials. For example, if you are needing a wheel chair ramp due to an injury from which you will recover in several weeks than you might want to consider renting a wheel chair ramp. However if your reason for needing a wheel chair ramp is more long term then you will probably want a permanent wheel chair ramp.

Once you have decided the rental vs. permanent ramp question then there are a few more issues to take into consideration. Where the wheel chair ramp will be located is in part due to available space and the frequency of the wheel chair ramp use. If you are using a manual wheel chair or a power wheel chair you will want to end of the ramp to be on a hard surface with adequate stopping distance as opposed to ending on a lawn area.

The term portable wheel chair ramp generally refers to ones ability to move the ramp from one place to another. This is a rather subjective term since what may be easy for one person may prove to be a real difficulty for another. Most often portable wheel chair ramps are stored in vans or tucked into vehicles. These portable wheel chair ramps are best used for maneuvering over curbs or steps under 10 inches high.

These are just a few of the basic questions that should be asked and answered before you either buy or rent a wheel chair ramp. If you remain unsure about the usability or applicability of a ramp for any particular use, please call us at 1stSeniorCare where we can better serve you. (866 8 CARE4U toll free.)
