Electric Scooter Safety

Electric Scooter Mechanical Safety Tips

Make these checks regularly.  Check all bolt heads, joints, hinges and quick release latches to ensure the electric scooter is properly assembled.  Stop using the electric scooter immediately if any joint, hinge, or quick release latch becomes loose. Correct the discovered defect prior to resuming the ride of your electric scooter.

If the brake lever touches the handlebar grip, stop use of the electric scooter until the lever is adjusted to allow full brake pressure without touching the end of travel.

Maintain proper air pressure in the tires of your electric scooter. Low air pressure in the tires of your electric scooter induces extra rolling friction, reduces ground clearance, and wears the tires quicker.

Always deflate the electric scooter tire before disassembling the wheel. Failure to deflate the tire could cause the wheel to come apart explosively.

Electrical Safety Tips for Electric Scooters

Completely charge the battery before riding the electric scooter for the first time.

Disconnect the battery from the motor lead when you will not use your electric scooter for an extended period.

Use caution when recharging the batteries. Do not recharge in an area that will allow the electric scooter or the charging unit to become wet (as in rainfall). Recharge only in an area that is well ventilated.

Keep children away from the electric scooter while it is being recharged.

Stop use of the electric scooter or the charging unit for it if any wire becomes worn, broken, or damaged in any way. (This can be detected early by excessive heat in any wire.)

Do not modify the electrical controls or wiring of your electric scooter. Use only motors, batteries, and charging units supplied or approved for cheap electric scooters.

Do not use the electric scooter battery to power or recharge any other equipment.

Do not block the air vents on the electric scooter charging unit. If blocked, the electrical charging unit may overheat and create a fire hazard.
